25 years ago, I was offered my first job as a ‘trainer’ – that was the day my world changed forever. What I discovered was, that in this crowded market of learning and development professionals, to stand out, this job, whilst one of the most rewarding on the planet, is one of the most demanding as well.
I am lucky enough to have worked with leadership teams from large international businesses for over 25 years, and if I am completely honest ‘what leadership is’ mystified me for a long time; walk into the business section of any library, and there are large number of very impressive piece of work about leadership. In fact, there are institutions that specialise in leadership. Leadership is big business.
I remember growing up there was a book called 'All that you wanted to know about (insert topic), but were afraid to ask.' I was reflecting on this recently and on my experience of working with over 15,000 sales people over the past (nearly) 30 years.
